I kissed his hand and looked out at the sky. Caught up in the moment, I hummed an old love song I heard when I was a little girl as he ran his thumb over my knuckle. The trees just barely peaked into my vision from where I was laying. They were gone. They couldn't do anything to us. There was no one but him and me and the sky. The trees hovered over us, protecting us from what lay on the outside of this safe place-excluding us from the danger zone. It was warm and the grass was soft. "Can we stay here forever?" I asked. He kissed the top of my hair and said, "If only."
