I saw how it was, and I wept
But I cried silent tears
As they had not seen it
And they did not need to

You touch my hand
The world's on fire
No one accurately depicted desire
Never have I known it at all
'Til your hand brushed mine,
Did you hear my heart stall?
Never has a chilling breeze
Sent such a shake through my spine
Or so weakened my knees
Folding my fingers into my palm
I brush a hand through my hair
I try to look calm
Your hand's in your lap
Pulling on your canvas bag strap
As I flip the page in my book
From the corner of my eye, I catch your look
I glance at you, you turn away
Your cheeks are as red as your eyes are grey
If I should reach out, and take your hand,
Would we fall in love, however unplanned?
Perhaps we will eventually
But the one who moves first
Will not be me
different
from the rest of them
it's like
there are strings pulling
sewing together
the parts
and it seems
complete
but it's
still in the process
of being created
it's
different
I thought I heard you calling
I got up to follow your voice
I thought I heard you calling
But I guess it was just the door
Creaking on its hinges
As the wind comes through the floor
I thought I saw you walking
I tried to catch up to you
I thought I saw you walking
But I guess it wasn't you
Just a stranger wearing
An expression of confusion
As I call them by your name
I thought I felt you near me
I thought I felt your gaze
I thought I heard you whispering
Through the vents, my name
I thought I felt you near me
But I guess I'm going crazy
Because there's no one there at all
Just me, and a wilted lily.

Tell me what you said
I was listening, but I
Got distracted
Somewhere along the line...
Your voice is liquid gold
As it pours into my ears
How can I comprehend
When the gold doesn't let me hear?
Your eyes cut holes in my soul
How can I understand
When I'm patching up my spirit
Like pants on a kid in a boyband?
Your hair is weeping willow branches
Swaying in the breeze
How can I grasp your meaning
When the wind's knocked me to my knees?
Your lips, at last, are dripping roses
Bleeding out my heart
How can I apprehend you, love
When my body won't restart?

don't tell me you're worthless
you should know, you're perfect
don't tell me I don't love you
every thought of mine is of you
don't tell me I don't need you
you saved me, I want to rescue you
too
don't tell me we don't belong together
you are a cold bird, I am a feather
you and me are meant to be
as the fish belongs to the sea

Lifting rocks and bending trees
Searching over and under things
Crossing pathways, rushing seas
Of bluejays, birds that sing
The smell of pine along a
River like Rhine
Which bends like crouching knees
A kiss that's mine
Under a shadow from the sky
A cloud which warning brings

It's different on the shoreline
Not sure if I can explain
It's different on the shoreline
The concept's simple, it is plain
It's different on the shoreline
Though I can't quite tell you how
It's different on the shoreline
Different then than it is now

And after that you can lean on me
I'll kiss you 'til my lips turn to dust
And after that our foreheads will touch
I'll stare at you 'til my eyes go blind
And after that I'll feel your hands in mine
I'll be with you 'til the end of my life
And love you 'til the end of time

Happiness is catching
It's spreading all around
It reaches out with welcoming arms
And never lets you down
The Joy Disease is spreading
It's moving like the breeze
It's blowing through your hair
And giving you shaky knees
If you see someone smiling
Do not be alarmed
It's one of the many symptoms
And it's aimed at you, so warm
I've got The Optimism
And I believe it's contagious
So stand extra close to me
If you're that courageous
